Clean Boat, Cleaner Ocean: Introducing Ecostore
Following on from our ‘Save our Oceans’ article, Pantaenius would like to introduce you to a company that truly aligns with the values of Pantaenius!
Ecostore started in 1993 on the Northcoast of New Zealand, where its founders were creating effective cleaning products which were clear of harmful or unnecessary chemicals, products that put people’s health first and gave them the opportunity to live clean. This core identity still rings true today, however ecostore products are now sold around the globe and their range continues to improve and grow, year by year.
Whilst ecostore has a huge range of products for you home, from cleaning to baby care, it is their new line of Boat Wash that is at the forefront of environmentally friendly products in our industry. The new Boat Wash is a high performance, plant and mineral based product. It is effective in removing salt and grime from all hard and soft surfaces including fibreglass, vinyl, plastic, metal, wood, rubber, glass and painted or polished surfaces, all whilst being free of nasty petrochemicals that endanger marine life and pollute our oceans. As every fluid used onboard will at some point flow out into the ocean, mostly untreated, this new product is the catalyst for change in high performing, boat cleaning solutions. Changing your boat wash to a plant and mineral based product reduces the footprint your vessel has on the ocean whilst providing a healthy and safe onboard environment for you and your guests.
Ecostore has partnered with Olympic and Americas Cup sailors, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke’s Ocean Preservation Foundation, Live Ocean www.liveocean.com and one dollar from every 1 litre boat wash sold is going to help support the work it does in protecting our oceans. In the coming months ecostore will also be adding to their line of marine products with an environmentally sustainable Multi-purpose concentrate cleaner, ideal for tenders, canvas, sails, and hard to remove scuff marks and a Metal Cleaner and Restorer to revive and protect all Stainless and metals onboard.
Ecostore’s formulations are also all grey and black water tank safe and if that’s not enough, their containers are not made from petrochemical plastic but sustainable sugar cane plastic. The sugar cane used for each container captures 2kg of CO2 while it grows, is 100% reusable and recyclable. Since switching to sugar plastic in 2014, ecostore have saved over 7676 tonnes of carbon from being released into the air. What’s crazy is that if every household in New Zealand (just under 1.8 million households) switched to sugar plastics for their home cleaning and body care products for a year, a total of 43,000 tonnes would be saved from being released into the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of 9,200 vehicles removed off the road, the electricity of 6,445 NZ households or 1 million trees being planted. In Australia those figures would be close to 5x as high!
Not sure if we have ever encountered a product with more benefits backing it. Topping it all off is that ecostore’s team is incredibly friendly and passionate about what they do and how they can increase the health and longevity of our planet.
