2021 British Yachting Awards - Pantaenius Sailor of the Year Award
Pantaenius is proud to participate in the British Yachting Awards and to sponsor the Sailor of the Year award. The event held on 30th November 2021 was at the Royal Thames Yacht Club.
The Pantaenius team had the pleasure of attending alongside some sailing greats Mike Golding, Pip Hare, Ian Walker and Sir Chay Blyth who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award.
The double Silver Olympic medallist, Ian Walker gave the opening speech and Ben Sutcliffe-Davies made a touching tribute to John Goode, former editor of Sailing Today who passed away earlier this year. The Pantaenius Sailor of the Year award went to Murdoch McGregor, with Pip Hare the runner up.
Fiona McCracken, one of the Pantaenius team, spoke with Murdoch just before the award ceremony and he told her “I feel I have already won just being nominated”. Fiona also had the great pleasure of presenting Murdoch with the Pantaenius Sailor of the Year award.
At the age of 82 Murdoch completed a solo UK circumnavigation. He is believed to be the oldest to have ever done the trip solo. The Scotsman, who only started sailing in his seventies, suffered a back injury 50 miles short of Cape Wrath, which forced him to change his initial plans to go round Shetland, but he and his Hunter Horizon 232 completed the circle, arriving back in his home port of Alloa, on the upper Forth, having raised more than £10,000 for Mental Health UK.
A fantastic achievement and a worthy winner.
Many congratulations Murdoch.
